Mistakes of the 'Orient Express'

THE EDITOR, Sir:

YES THE dream is over, the Reggae Boyz are not going to World Cup 2002. The 'Orient Express' has derailed and it's not possible to get it back on track.

The fact that we did not qualify cannot be the fault of the coaching staff as they are not the ones taking the field of play. However they are the ones we will blame when tactics and team selection go awry and it is absolutely clear that team selection has been the problem.

This latest game against the US was to my mind good open football by the Boyz; however I still maintain the stance that Theodore Whitmore has been the main liability to the team.

His selection has no merit, as all that is said after each game is that on his day 'Tapper' can take any side apart. The fact of the matter is that after nine games his day has still not come.

Onandi Lowe was up to his old tricks and I was glad when he was substituted, I wish the same was done for 'Tapper'.

Having an indisciplined individual and a non-performer in the side are definitely recipes for disaster. Andy Williams is wasted on the bench; give the youth a break. We can only learn from these mistakes and try not to repeat them. I wish the Boyz well in their final match.

I am, etc.,
