THE EDITOR, Sir:
I HAD reason to visit Downtown Parade in Kingston, a place I avoid because of the congestion, in search of a man who sells rambutan at the corner of West Queen Street. I found a space for my car in front of the park but had to navigate rivulets of urine and the stench that goes with it to reach my objective. I saw no signs of any type of public convenience so I imagine any tourists who are brave enough to visit the park would be forced to 'bend down and lift up' along with the locals.
I did find the man and the rambutan, which were well worth the trip; he had both varieties the yellow and the red and they were sweet and juicy.
If the government can't manage to keep Downtown Parade in a decent condition can't the business people who have to operate there every day unite and have some sanitary conveniences put in place. There is an area right in front of the park were the taxi drivers park; couldn't they petition the KSAC to build something to ease the situation.
I suspect they made a considerable contribution to those rivulets I was forced to navigate.
I am etc.,
