Deejay Alley Cat's car set on fire

DEEJAY Alley Cat's 1996 Honda Integra, valued at $650,000, was on Tuesday set on fire by arsonists, the deejay believes.

The fire which started near the driver's seat, quickly spread inside the car, and was put out by a fire brigade unit from Portmore, St. Catherine.

The Caymanas police have confirmed the incident but have not established a motive. According to Constable Shaun Dotting, "We found a stone in the vehicle which may have been used to smash the window and a plastic bottle which could have contained the contents to set the vehicle on fire," he said.

Alley Cat told the WEEKEND STAR that about 8 o' clock Tuesday morning, he was lying in bed when he heard a crashing sound outside. The sound came from where his vehicle was parked at 5 First Avenue in Cumberland, St. Catherine.

He said he became suspicious and cracked his bedroom window only to see that the window on the driver's side had been smashed. H, e also noticed something peculiar happening. "There was a bright flame coming from the steering wheel of my vehicle. I made an alarm while the fire quickly began to spread inside the vehicle."

"Neighbours came running with water to douse the flames while others were too shocked to do anything, believing that the vehicle would have burst into flames," he said.

A fire-fighting unit was summoned and the flames brought under control.

Alley Cat believes that the attack on his motor vehicle was carried out by "bad-minded people who doan waan fi see mi strive in life."

"I have done nobody any wrong and I and nobody is in any war," he declared.

The deejay, who has been living in the Portmore community for two years, said he has been recording a number of peace songs to help and unite people who were in conflict.
