Todd has right Profile

Orville Clarke, Freelance Writer

TODAY'S 11-race programme at Caymanas Park will be highlighted by the annual 1200-metre run for the Melvin "Babu" Chin Memorial Trophy, a 3-y-o and up Stakes and Starter Handicap event.

The race is run in memory of the late Melvin "Babu" Chin whose family has donated $100,000 to the purse of $400,000. Chin was not only a champion owner in 1975 through his Melvin Park Stud and Stables, but a top breeder and going back to the early 60s, co-founder of Track Price Plus which today is the island's largest bookmaking company. Chin's son, Xavier, is the present CEO of the company.

In addition to the Melvin "Babu" Chin Memorial Trophy, the card also features a Celebrity Walkstacle over 200 metres, this in aid of the Kidney Foundation of Jamaica, as well as a valuable supporting feature for the Sir Walter Gilbey Memorial Cup over 1800 metres. Track Price Plus has donated $25,000 to the Kidney Foundation.

A field of eight three-year-olds and up is down to contest the Starter Handicap II and Overnight Allowance contest, including the hot ante-post favourite DIABLO FOREVER (working very well) who is prepping for the rich Red Stripe Mile for imported horses on Superday, November 10.

Despite topweight of 57.0kg, DIABLO FOREVER from the bang in form stables of trainer Jose Pinchin, should catch the very useful native bred three-year-old colt PHAREAL, who totes the postage stamp impost of 48.0kg. CIELO MYSTIQUE, also lightly weighted, should close rapidly for a share.

Only five have been declared for the Melvin "Babu" Chin Memorial Trophy, including three from the stables of pacesetting trainer Richie Todd. Despite the small field, it should prove quite a competitive race as only the filler entry, DIRECTIONAL SIGN, can be safely ruled out.

Todd holds a strong hand with the vastly improved American 5-y-o mare EXECUTIVE PROFILE and the reigning Caribbean Sprint champion RUCKUS, but these two can expect worthwhile opposition from the consistent DIXIE FLYER and especially the late kicking NEFTENGA from the stables of trainer Richard Azan.

While RUCKUS looks tempting at the weights with only 48.5kg, preference is for EXECUTIVE PROFILE who ran top sprinter OWEN TAYLOR to a neck in the October 13 None Such Sprint over the distance, beaten in the smart time of 1:12.0.

Connections of EXECUTIVE PROFILE has opted for competent claiming apprentice Rudolph Paige to partner the speedy daughter of Dispersal - Damask Sky. His 2.0kg claiming allowance reduces the mare's weight to 55.0kg and this should be sufficient to take her into the winners' closure. NEFTENGA should close fast in deep stretch, but I fear he will be too late.

Other firm fancies on the card, which will see the 10 Breeders' Cup races from Belmont Park in New York on simulcast from 11:05 a.m., are SASHIE to make a winning debut in the third race for two-year-olds, RUN RIVER RUN over WYLE COYOTE and SILVER JOY in the 6th, RUN BUZZ RUN over DR. PEPPER in the 10th and MEDICAL DECISION over SLEWPY'S VALLEY, SLEW'S LEGEND and LITTLE WISKY in the 11th and final.
