THE EDITOR: Sir
THE ELECTION campaign is now on and I am becoming ever so annoyed by the 'cass cass' between so-called educated men who seek to become leaders of this blessed island of Jamaica.
Maybe it's the media's fault but I am yet to hear any of the two major political parties discuss or, better yet, put forward workable ideas as to how to tackle the various issues and problems confronting this country.
I for one (and one does make a difference especially if added up or if there is a tie) will not vote in the next general election as a mark of protest. I submit three reasons why:
1. I live in a so-called "inner-city" community where 'cass cass', hearsay and finger-pointing has led to many a tragic conclusion and I am tired of this. Now I must endure this from our leaders.
2. This 'cass cass' approach to campaigning does not encourage the "sportsman" type of rivalry where the "best man" wins and then everyone supports the winner for the good of the country. It encourages instead, confrontation and division.
3. I don't know about anyone else but if I am to go to a polling station to cast my vote, I must in some way be assured that my vote will somehow result in a better life for my family and me. 'Cass cass' and not knowing where parties stand on issues will not help me or anyone else for that matter. Issues are important.
I could continue on and on but I just want to make a point. Leaders, 'cass cass' and finger-pointing which cause division and strife are already hurting if not destroying our country, please do not contribute to that problem. The attitude you exhibit today and the gunmen that you tolerate to achieve your goals will return to haunt you at some other time.
I am, etc.,
