Bad road conditions discourage travellers

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I JUST spent a week on vacation in your beautiful country last month. I was travelling with 13 other people, two had already visited with me two years before. We spent many days travelling around the island sightseeing and taking everything in. We saw the island by hiring a very safe, knowledgeable and dependable driver. Although what we saw was remarkable there was, however, a drawback to our travelling.

The roads are so badly kept up that it is impossible to enjoy the countryside and taking pictures while travelling around is hard to do when you are swerving to avoid the holes. I do not understand why the roads are the way that they are, especially since tourism is so important to Jamaica's economy. If the roads do not improve drastically I firmly believe that this will dissuade people from coming back to visit.

When I was there two years ago, the roads were not even close the being this bad. I hope that if I ever get to visit your beautiful country again, I won't have to be subjected to the horrible conditions of the roads. It doesn't make it easy on the passengers, drivers or the vehicles. Jamaica is too gorgeous to never see again and I would hate for that to happen.

I am, etc.,
