THE EDITOR: Sir
WE WENT to the Dunns River Falls on October 14, 2001, the day before Heroes' Day, where we visited for a family day out to enjoy the sea, breathe the fresh air and relax.
I did not, however, end up swimming because I had to stand guard over the family's valuables while my husband and children frolicked in the sea.
We sat next to the tuck shop, where a group of men lingered while smoking their huge ganja "spliffs". There was another group on top of the tuck shop also rolling and smoking the banned substance.
Mr. Editor, I would like to know if this is the norm because there were security guards and policemen patrolling the beach and God knows what they were looking for because these guys weren't hiding. Uh! I'm sorry; probably I should have chosen the "No Smoking" section of the beach.
None of these guys swam, therefore, one can only assume their sole reason for going to the beach was to smoke. I had to eventually take up our belongings and move farther away from them much to their disapproval as evidenced by the scornful gazes bestowed upon me as I staggered away with all our possessions.
I would like the authorities at Dunn's River Falls to do something about this situation as it is an outrage, as, a lot of decent people visit the beach with their children. Why should one be exposed to such behaviour?
I am, etc.,
