THE EDITOR, Sir:
ALLOW ME to comment briefly on one aspect of the 2001 UWI Mona graduation exercise. My concern has to do with the quality paper used to print the Bachelor's Degree Certification. The quality paper used to print the certificates can only be described as poor, and this gives rise to serious doubts as to the longevity of this document in its original form.
One might argue that the "weight" of any UWI document exists in the words describing the particular award. I am in total agreement with any such view, but the fact is that one would prefer to see a UWI graduation certificate that is "eye-catching" given the fact that it is a document that comes home with you after hard work, sweat, tears and "shallow pockets".
It is no secret that it does not take "chicken feed" to complete successfully any course of choice at this institution.
Therefore, it is only reasonable that the UWI-Mona gives its graduates a "passing out" certificate that one can hold aloft and be proud.
I am etc.,
