Equal retirement rights

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM a retired teacher who taught in Jamaican schools under squalid conditions for many years, but I stuck to my course and decided to give of my best to my country.

Just as I approached aged 59, I was promptly advised by the Ministry of Education to prepare to leave on retirement as soon as I got to age 60. I was not allowed to remain even one hour over the 60. That is quite in order for me, but I would like to ask one question, viz: What makes Mr. Seymour Mullings more valuable than me, in that he has been sent to Washington in a new post at age 70?

I saw him on local television, a broad smile on his face, saying he hoped to remain in Washington for the duration of his three-year contract.

I tell you, there will never be peace in this country until we all have equal rights.

I am, etc.,
