How much longer should I wait?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON FEBRUARY 27, 1991, I was hit down by a police vehicle along East Queen Street and suffered a broken leg. I sued the policeman and the Attorney-General.

Supreme Court on November 14, 2000 and the Court found that the policeman was wrong, and gave judgement for me. I am supposed to get money for the injury suffered by me. Up to now, more than a year since the trial, I still have not received the money due to me from the Attorney-General.

I have checked with my lawyer, who showed me eight letters which he has written to the Attorney-General's Depart-ment and the Ministry of National Security and Justice, asking for the payment. The only response my lawyer received is a letter from the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security and Justice, on June 19, 2001 saying that "this matter is being investigated and as soon as payment is ready your office will be informed".

Sir, it is now more than 13 months since the Court award me the money. What is the Ministry investigating? How much longer will it take them to investigate?

How much longer will it be before payment is ready?

Why should the Government take over a year to pay me the money which the Court says I am to get? How many more people are being treated in this way by the Government?

I am, etc.,
