Requiem for two fine theologians

THE EDITOR, Sir:

LAST MONTH we lost Mr. Ted Edwards of Montego Bay and Mandeville who passed away after a long illness.

A Christian gentleman, a fine theologian, teacher and friend and a family model with quiet dignity. Brother Edwards came to Mandeville to assume responsibility as principal of Jamaica Bible College and Community Institute during challenging times and led the college through great development which saw the enterprise making great strides. An exponent of the Greek language he imparted well and was greatly respected by staff and students.

Last week news came of the death of another outstanding theologian Rev. David W. Jelleyman who passed away in England. Thirty-eight years at Calabar Theological College, it was a privilege to sit at his feet.

He was a fine example of humility and scholarship. Outside of the seminary he brought a deep concern for the poor and the needy. His work among the prison community was well known and he was a familiar Briton riding his bicycle when others used their automobiles.

The chairman of the Jamaica Baptist Union has spoken fittingly about him. Edwards and Jelleyman will long be remembered.

I am, etc.,

Rev. CLEVE GRANT

Chairman

Jamaica Bible College
