THE EDITOR, Sir:
FOR THE Patterson administration the chickens are beginning to come home to roost. The $180,000,000 giveaway by Phillip Paulwell to Netserv Global Communications could have been averted by following the dictates of basic research data, as every successful businessman would have done. That was not so.
The original concept that spawned FINSAC was based on ideology, rather than on free market conditions and sound long-term financial planning. The result is the $20 billion it will require to service the debt. The responsible Minister, Omar Davies, did not specify for how long, with good reason - there will soon be General Elections, and the immediate grab for power is far more important than the long-term welfare of the nation.
The Minister in charge of Agriculture is a national disgrace. Here in North America there are literally thousands of supermarkets that are unable to supply their patrons with adequate tropical fruits and vegetables. The useless notions that the Minister regurgitates have one thing in common - their gross track record of failures. All three of the above Ministers should immediately resign.
As long as the official policy of P.J. Patterson continues to be one that is bereft of meaningful accountability, Jamaica will continue to be an economic black hole.
Jamaicans are proud talented people who take to the streets to remedy a perceived wrong. There is no greater wrong, at least that I'm aware of, than what these three Ministers have done - or have utterly failed to do.
I am etc.,
