By Anthony Foster, Freelance WriterJAMAICA'S all-rounder Gareth Breese is out of the next Busta Cup trial match which starts at Alpart Sports Club on Thursday.
Breese who suffered a broken nose while batting in the second innings of the second practice match at Melbourne on Sunday, requires surgery which cannot be performed before tomorrow because of swelling and bleeding in his nose.
Chief executive officer of the Jamaica Cricket Association and father of the injured player, Brian Breese, said yesterday Gareth will see Dr. Akshai Mansingh today to see if surgery can be done tomorrow.
"He will have to wait until the swelling goes down before the surgery can take place. There is also some blood that will have to be drained out first," Brian Breese said.
"I think he will ready for the fourth practice match, knowing him he would not miss it," the player's father told the Gleaner yesterday afternoon.
Breese, 26, broke his nose when he was hit on the grill of his helmet by a delivery from pacer Dwight Mais at Melbourne Oval on Sunday.
The Jamaica squad has been plagued with injuries to several players. Successful West Indies Under-19 captain Brenton Parchment is also on the list.
Parchment injured his leg while fielding at the just concluded Under-23 camp put on by the Jamaica Cricket Association at Sabina Park last month. He too is expected to miss Thursday's practice match.
Breese said Parchment started physiotherapy yesterday and will continue until Friday before leaving camp for the Christmas holidays.
"We are looking, hopefully towards the last practice match to see if he can play," Breese said.
Other players on the injured list are batsman David Bernard Jnr. and fast bowler Warren Medwynter. Both will be out for approximately two weeks.
