Letter of the Day - Drivers' rights and street boys

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN WELCOMING you on board Minister Phillips, I would like to be proactive and find out from you Sir, who will be responsible when my car becomes damaged by the street boys on Hagley Park Road outside of St. Andrew Parish Church? I ask this question, because it's just a matter of time before this happens.

As a female driver I find it disgusting and frightening having to face these young hoodlums every day. When some of the others can be tolerated, the ones by St. Andrew Parish Church are clearly young criminals in the making.

These boys not only abuse you verbally but thump on car windows and try to break windshields wipers, break radio poles and mark the body of the vehicles with sharp instruments.

Is it fair to invest in a vehicle and not feel safe to take it on the road? Minister, this needs your urgent attention, female drivers are in danger, these boys at this corner must be removed.

The same energy and determination being used by the government to remove the vendors from the streets of downtown should be applied here. Our rights are being violated. Results must be seen and soon.

I am etc.,

B. DIXON
