By Nodley Wright, Staff ReporterFOLLOWING THE demolition job done on Grenada on Tuesday, it is back to business for the Reggae Girls.
Today they take on the Bahamas at 3:00 p.m. in the Caribbean Zone of the women's Under-19 World Cup qualifiers and again the goals are expected to flow. Before the Reggae Girls hit the field though, their only threat in the competition, Trinidad and Tobago tackle Grenada in the opening match at 1:00. The venue is again the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
For today's game, coach Patrick 'Jackie' Walters is expecting a similar performance to the one his team gave on Tuesday - especially in the second half. "Everyone is in high spirits right now," Walters said of his players.
There are injury worries surrounding two of the players, forwards Tashana Vincent and Kaena-Shae Thomas, who are bothered by knee problems. Thomas started and scored the opening goal before making way for Vincent who scored and was herself substituted.
If they do not play, the goals should still come in a free flow as Jodie-Ann McGregor, captain Denese Duncan and Kim Dunn will again report in good form.
"I expect them to put in a much better performance in terms of team organisation," Walters said before adding "and they are looking forward to it because ultimately the game against Trinidad and Tobago to them is a very big event."
The Bahamas are not expected to put up much resistance to the Jamaican team. Of the four teams in the competition they look to be the weakest. What is good about them though is that they have a good sporting spirit and enjoy their game.
In the opener, the twin-island republic is expected to put away Grenada comfortably. They play a good team game and in captain Tasha St. Louis they have a very good technical footballer and goalscorer.
Maylee Attin-Johnson and Mauricia Atkinson will also relish this opposition in a bid to add to their gaolscoring tally.
