Ganja and Munro

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM appalled at the attention that has been given to the matter regarding the five Munro boys caught smoking weed. Why is there so much ado about them? Lest we forget, ganja grows freely in our country and no matter what we do and how we try to get rid of it, it grows naturally so we will always find it.

Now if we decide to smoke a joint for recreation or other purposes, why it is broadcast as the worst crime ever? What about the millions made and shared with politicians from the smuggling of this deadly weed? Are we always going to embarrass our children? That is not the way to discipline our children! I can now understand why our children grow up afraid to talk with their parents and counsellors at school because instead of correcting or counselling them, we condemn and embarrass them.

I urge these schools' executives to desist from using primitive methods in our educational system but instead embark on providing methods of discipline that are effective yet not disabling.

I am etc.,
