More questions than answers

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AS AN American who has been coming to Jamaica since 1979, I was again dismayed to see reported on television here in New York City news of seven more violent deaths in Kingston.

Why is it that Jamaica has so many killings? Why is it that guns are used more in your country to settle conflict than in others? Why is it that the Jamaican Government and its judicial system lack respect and good enforcement practices? Why is it that the Jamaican murder rate is one of the highest in the world?

Do you not realise that every act of murder inflicts economic pain because it hurts tourism? Why is it that such a beautiful paradise must shed so many tears?
