Luciano's album 'A New Day' has been nominated for the 2001 Reggae Grammy Album . - Contributed
JEPTHER 'LUCIANO' McClymont has one of the five albums nominated for the 2001 Reggae Grammy Album of the Year award. His album, A New Day, released in April 2001, has been nominated for the top honours for the year 2001.
It is the first time that Luciano is being nominated for this award, which is now in its 17th year as a part of the prestigious American Grammy Awards ceremony. The Reggae Grammy category was added in 1984 and was first won by the group Black Uhuru for the album Anthem on the Mango Island Records label.
Luciano's album is a 17 track compilation released on the VP label. VP, while outputting a high volume of Jamaican albums over the years, has never tasted Grammy success outside of getting nominations in a number of years.
A New Day is a clean spiritual album and track by track defines the artiste who has remained true to a particular standard of production since his first big hit with the cover of Cherryl Lyn's Shake It Up Tonight in 1994.
Of interest, there are no duets on this compilation.
Tracks on the album are:
No Night In Zion
Oh Father I Love Thee
Is There A Place
Happy People
Road Of Life
Nah Give Up
God Is My Friend
Only A Fool
Traveller
African Skies
A New Day
Hardcore
Spring Summer
God And King
Tell Me Why
Save The World
Journey
This album has not been particularly popular locally. And there are no cuts from this album that were strong local favourites. The strong local favourites for 2001 came from another album Great Controversy.
The executive producers for A New Day are Chris and Joel Chin from VP. Production credits go to Dean Fraser for Canon Productions.
Other Luciano albums are:
Moving Up; Where Is The Life; Messenger; Don't Get Crazy; One Way Ticket; After All; Sweep Over My Soul; Live; Live In Venezuela; Luciano, Sizzla, Anthony B, Three Wise Men.
