Stewart scores century

By Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

MARCUS STEWART scored the first century of the 2002 schoolboy cricket season but his team Camperdown had to settle for a draw against Ardenne in their Grace Shield A League match at Kensington Park yesterday.

Stewart hit 149 of his team's total of 197 for eight declared and Ardenne replied with 52 for three when bad light stopped play.

Stewart, who plays for Kensington in the Senior Cup cricket competition struck 16 fours and four sixes and featured in an important 93-run eighth-wicket partnership with Joel Stewart who contributed seven. The two came together with Camperdown struggling at 101 for seven, but with Stewart playing on his home ground, things looked too easy for him.

Andre Lopez (eight) and Simeon Morris (six) were the only other batsmen to make any worthwhile contributions to the score against Christopher Hart's 3-39 off 15 overs.

When Ardenne batted they suffered three quick blows with less than 15 runs on the board. However, with captain Simon Jackson (32 not out) at the wicket the work for Camperdown's bowlers had just started. Marcus Stewart took 1-26 and Azan Sinclair 1-7 bowling for Camperdown.

AT NELSON OVAL: Bryan Britton's five-wicket haul led his team, Calabar, to a seven-wicket victory over Holy Trinity.

Britton took 5-13 off five overs as Holy Trinity were dismissed for 73. Calabar replied with 74-3.

Among the off-spinner's victims were opener Marivn Pasco (seven), Andre Salmon (one), Phillip Salmon (21), Richard Allison (two) and Dudone Campbell (four). Number 10 batsman, Mario Perrin contributed 10 at the end. Marlon Allen with 2-2 from 2.1 overs supported Britton.

When Calabar replied, they lost three early wickets of Shane Duncan (two), Jermaine Gordon (four) and Jermaine Beach (0) all going leg before wicket with the score on 30.

Wayne Thompson (54) and Oneil Wright (10) saw their team home without further loss. Tray Amsby (2-14) was the most successful Holy Trinity bowler.
