Cousins wins national prize for writing

Cousins

Retired Principal, Oren O. Cousins of St. Catherine, recently won the Vic Reid prize for Children and Young Adults Literature in the National Literacy Competition 2001, sponsored by the National Book Development Council of Jamaica.

Mr. Cousins' short story collection, 'Monkey Finger and More', emerged ahead of Jean Goulbourne's 'Heroes' and Andrew Brodber's 'Anansi'. 'Monkey Finger' is a collection of nearly 40 stories, humorously and sometimes seriously exploring and portraying the experiences and subtleties of the Jamaican psyche.

Mr. Cousins has written two other novels, 'Road to Damascus' and 'Mose'. He hopes to publish them in 2002. He is currently working on a fourth novel.
