THE EDITOR, Sir:
history has it that when the great Apostle Peter tried to flee Rome during the persecution of Christians who were being thrown to the lions by the evil Roman rulers of the time, the risen Lord Jesus commanded that he return to Rome and comfort his people.
It is reported that Christ said that if Peter did not go back, "I will go in your stead and be crucified a second time."
The thought of His Lord suffering a second agonising death on the Cross so filled Peter with grief that he immediately returned to his own certain peril.
In Jamaica today, we have managed to do what Peter sought so much to avoid.
The blood of the innocent cries out from the soaked earth for Him to come down again and rescue or comfort us as His advocates have completely failed His commission to them.
Indeed, too many of this nation's church leaders have sacrificed God's children young and old on the altar of expediency, self-aggrandisement and for selfish goals.
Can you in your wildest nightmare imagine a so-called church leader at a press conference announcing the National Prayer Breakfast saying that he and the other planners cannot take the GG and other VIPs into 100 Lane?
Why? Are men like the GG and other so-called VIPs now better than God, who came down from Heaven, walked among us and lovingly touched, healed and ultimately redeemed lepers, prostitutes, tax collectors, thieves, murderers and other such 'vile' sinners?
As a young Christian, I grieve as I watch and listen to the pompous, vain antics of many church leaders.
I wish to remind them of the Scriptures which uncategorically state that the national prayer breakfast and all such other traditions will continue to be a waste of valuable time and resources as long as men of God embrace evil-doers and refuse to denounce their actions for what they are; an affront against God and man.
Are today's religious leaders any different from the members of the Jewish Sanhedrin who dragged our Christ to Golgotha, jeered and spat on Him and then beat their chests when His head finally lowered in death?
In fact they are worse, as the Sanhedrin never took on the name of Christ, or falsely paraded as His followers.
I cry shame on those leaders who feel it more convenient to be in the good graces of political, private sector and other figures than proclaim the word of God at all times, in every place, regardless of the consequences.
Where are Jamaica's prophets? Where are the Jeremiahs, Isaiahs, Samuels, even Jonahs of our day? Where are you, men of God?
I am, etc.,
