Thwaites' proposal deserves consideration

Thwaites

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WISH to commend MP Ronnie Thwaites for the intelligent, practical and extremely valuable suggestions he has made in respect of greater flexibility on the part of the NHT in order to allow more persons access to the funds.

Daily we seek solutions to some of the problems causing tension in our country. It is not enough to express surprise at the appalling conditions in which some of our citizens are forced to live. People need hope.

Housing is an acutely sensitive problem. All self-respecting persons aspire to having a decent place in which to live. Many of our people have migrated because of sheer frustration and the seeming impossibility of ever owning a decent place in which to live, given their financial status.

I hope the persons in authority will take Mr. Thwaites' proposals very seriously and act expeditiously to address the points raised.

His suggestions, if implemented, should surely help to reduce the sense of hopelessness which plagues the everyday existence of many of our brothers and sisters. People need hope.

I am, etc.
