'GONE TOO soon' was the cry and still is, of many with regards to the Right Honourable Robert Nesta Marley, who died from melanoma and brain cancer on May 11, 1981, at the age of just 36. Today Marley would have been 57 years old, and even after more than 20 years since his passing, the legacy of Robert Nesta Marley still lives on in the hearts and minds of many.
Today, in celebration of his birth, there will be a 'Trail of Bob's life' starting at his birth-place and ending at his recording plant.
THE ROUTE IS AS FOLLOWS
Nine-Miles; departure at 7 a.m. - Faiths Hill - Spanish Town Highway - Stop - Tuff Gong (special performance) - Trench Town Culture Yard - Industrial Terrace - Harbour Street - Michael Manley Blvd. - Bull Bay Police Station (special performance) - Return Harbour View - Windward Road - Mountain View Avenue - Seymore Avenue - Lady Musgrave Rd. - Stop - Bob Marley Museum, Bob Marley Earthday Celebration, Cake Cutting and Karaoke Bob Marley.
In the thirty six years that he lived, the weed-smoking, dreadlocked Trench Town ghetto youth elevated Reggae music and in that same breath brought a part of Jamaica's heritage to the world at large. His impact on the lives of many is evident as one teenaged fan's from Europe last wish was that his body be cremated and his ashes be sprinkled at the feet of Bob's statue.
