Inland Revenue Department warns outstanding taxpayers

SANTA CRUZ, St. Elizabeth:

IN AN effort to maximise collection of taxes and to ensure voluntary compliance, the Inland Revenue Department in Santa Cruz is making an appeal to taxpayers to make all their outstanding payments at once.

In an interview with The Gleaner on Monday, Senior Collector of Taxes, Ronica Johnston, said that statutory outstanding payments for 2001 and Employers Annual Returns are overdue and failure to pay taxes attracts penalties. She added that all statutory deductions are due and payable by the 14th of the following month.

She said that the collection of property tax starts on April 1 each year and General Consumption Tax (GCT) is due and payable by the last day of the succeeding month.

She said taxpayers are encouraged to comply because court actions are now being taken against all outstanding amounts in all tax types. "In an effort to improve our customer service our office in Santa Cruz is now opened at a new time, at 8:30 a.m. from February 1, 2002," Mrs. Johnston said.
