TROY DAWES blasted a 25-yard free kick into the net yesterday as leaders Boys' Town snatched a 2-2 draw against Santos in their final round one KSAFA Major League game at Great House Boulevard, Mona.
Boys' Town appeared headed for certain defeat when they trailed 2-1 with four minutes remaining but the Andrew Pryce-coached team was saved courtesy of a vicious freekick from Dawes, the powerful shot took a deflection off the defensive wall and deceived Santos' goalkeeper Andrew Sewell in the 86th minute.
However, it was Boys' Town which looked the better team for most part and after a goalless first half took the lead through Bridgeport Comprehensive schoolboy Dean Thompson, who placed a beautiful shot out of Sewell's reach in the 54th minute from the edge of the 18-yard box.
Santos hit back by scoring twice within seven minutes and were well on their way to hand Boys' Town a rare defeat this year until Dawes' thunderous freekick.
The hard-running Terence Allen picked up a loose ball 25 yards out and fired home to level the score at 1-1 in the 72nd minute and then in the 79th minute Kingston College's Manning Cup striker Richard West put Santos 2-1 ahead with a well-placed shot from the edge of the six-yard box, the diminutive forward was brilliantly set up by substitute Courtney Sinclair.
The result kept Boys' Town ahead in Zone Two with 23 points, four ahead of Police National and Santos who are on 19. Shortwood United are fourth with 16 points followed by Whitfield Town (15) and Vineyard Town (13).
In Zone One, Real Mona lead with 19 points, two ahead of Jamaica Defence Force (17) and Meadhaven United one more back on 16. The top three are followed by Barbican (11), Greenwich Town (six) and Cavalier (four).
The draw was not welcomed by Boys' Town coach, Andrew Pryce, who blasted his team and hinted their could be changes for future games.
"They definitely did not play well and after today's performance there will have to be a shake up within the team," Pryce said.
"Indiscipline is creeping into the team as there are players that are not following instructions and we could lose them soon," he said.
Carlton Dennis, coach of Santos, expressed disappointment with his team but said the is willing to forgive on the grounds that the team lacks experience.
"We are playing with mostly Under-20 players who are inexperienced. I am disappointed but glad we didn't lose the game. It was a good result considering that we were playing away," said Dennis.
