SANTOS KEPT Zone Two leaders Boys' Town in their sights with a 3-1 win over Police National at Kingston College, Elletson Road yesterday as the KSAFA Major League swung into a higher gear with round two games.
The result put Santos into clear second position on 22 points and cut Boys' Town's lead from four to two.
Boys' Town have 24 points after they were held to a surprise 1-1 draw with fourth-placed Shortwood United at NWC, Great House Boulevard.
In Zone One, Real Mona moved to the lead after blanking Greenwich Town 3-0 at Tinson Pen.
Jamaica Defence Force dropped to second with 20 points after their game against Barbican was not played.
At Elletson Road, striker Fabian Nethersole scored a double and Kingston College schoolboy Richard West got another to keep Santos's title hopes alive.
Clayton Wallace scored from 25 yards to give the Police hope at 2-1 in the 67th minute but their defenders caved in at the end.
Santos' inspirational player West, and his strike partner Nethersole proved, a handful for Police National who failed to compete effectively in the first half.
Police's defensive wall finally gave way in the 38th minute when Nethersole was allowed to pick up a loose ball inside the 18-yard box and fire a grounder which beat goalkeeper Bernard Kluri.
Nethersole added his second goal in the 55th minute to give Santos a 2-0 lead.
However, Police got back into contention when Wallace hammered home to make the score 2-1, but West scored in time added on (92nd minute) to complete the victory.
