THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS with great interest that I observe the repairs and upgrade of our roads and other facilities in the anticipation of the arrival of the Queen of England. However, the thought came into my mind as to why all of this is being done for the visit of someone who has no role in our country's affairs except for a ceremonial one, yet the queens of our land suffer on a daily basis.
Is it that someone who has little interest in the lives of her "subjects" is worth more than those who help to keep our nation going? Every day, the over one million queens of our land have to traverse the bad roads and use the awful conditions of some facilities, yet a ceremonial one is given more priority? Let us compare the queens, on one hand, one will have to carry out the painstaking task of choosing whatever she desires, while the other has to decide how to utilise the little that she has.
So why is one, who rarely helps others is afforded better facilities and treatment than those who work their fingers to the bone to build this nation? Is it that these queens are just liabilities? Or is it that over a million queens don't add up to one?
It is a shame that this, and previous administrations have seen it fit to cater to the whims and fancies of a scarce queen, while the "real" queens of our land are made to suffer until the ceremonial one decides to visit. Our queens deserve much better treatment than they receive, after all, aren't these the same queens who help to decide whether a leader will rule this nation or not?
Think on these matters, because when all the excitement and fanfare is over, which queen are you going home to?
I am, et.,
