Lazy, dreamy days under an orange tree

- Contributed

A flowery path leads the way to the outdoor pool and gazebo at County Villa.

Denise Clarke, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU :

WHO IN their right mind would put a villa all the way out here? That was one of two questions that came to mind as I followed the unpaved road, searching for Country Villa.

The other was, who on earth would come to this place, between Montego Bay and Savanna-la-Mar? I was in Burnt Ground, Hanover, in the middle of what seemed like nowhere.

As Country Villa came into view, however, I could see that the picture I had painted in my mind's eye was dreadfully mistaken. Someone -- seeking rest and relaxation -- had indeed gotten the right idea.

If lazy days are what you have in mind, this is the perfect place. In addition to the tranquil sounds of birds chirping and bamboo trees whistling all around you, the landscape is absolutely breathtaking.

This place is ideal for couples or the entire family. There is plenty to do -- tennis, golf, cricket, swimming and more. There's fishing too, in a pond located on the property. Cook your catch yourself, or have it done for you. Eat at the poolside, or under the gazebo in the courtyard. It's your call.

The 10 rooms that make up the Country Villa have air conditioning, but you won't need it. And trust me, you will not be able to resist the call of the hammocks underneath the giant orange, grapefruit, coconut and other fruit trees. The fruits too, are there for the taking.

The restaurant dishes up a variety of delicious meals, but if you prefer to cook your own meal, you can borrow the small kitchen provided just for guests. Afterwards, a game of billiards at the bar will help you unwind.

The large outdoor pool at the edge of the manicured lawn is irresistible during lazy, dreamy days of warm sunshine and refreshing breeze. It's even more enticing under a moonlit night. There is also a private Jacuzzi available.

Country Villa was built a few years ago, by returning residents who had live in England. The couple decided to turn the property into a business. The mix of flora and fauna which make up the landscape, has made Country Villa the venue of choice for weddings and parties for every occasion.

The owners plan to add a music room where guests can either learn or or tune up their skills on instruments such as drums, keyboard and guitar. Future additions include a mini-zoo and a football field.

COST

$1,500 (and up) per room per night. There is no cost to using the grounds as a picnic site.

HOW TO GET THERE

Travelling from Savanna-la-Mar, turn right at Burnt Ground and follow the brightly coloured signs. Country Villa is about three quarters of a mile up the road.
