Young stars on show

NATIONAL JUNIOR record holders Melaine Walker of St. Jago High and Wolmer's Greg Lyttle lead an outstanding group of hurdlers into today's National Hurdles and Field Events Championships.

They, along with world youth champion Camille Robinson, UWI's Toni-Ann Doyley, high jumper Jermaine Mason, heptathlete Peta-Gaye Beckford and a host of other young stars, are set to compete at the 13th staging of the event that will be held at G.C. Foster College starting at 9:00 a.m.

In all, eight Carifta champions will be competing and spectators are ensured of quality performances including Trishana McGowan (Under-17 hurdles), Jamaica College's Patrick Lee and Kingston College's Dorrian Coley and Dwayne Robinson.

Walker and Lyttle set new standards in the 400m hurdles last year and are on track for success this season.

Walker followed up her bronze medal success at the 2000 World Junior Champion-ships by lowering her own national junior record to 55.62 seconds.

The girls Class Two 100 metres hurdles promises to be exciting.

Vere's Keisha Brown hurdled to a record 13.81 seconds last year and returns to face CAC Under-17 champion Nadina Marsh of St. Jago.
