I REMEMBER Kern Spencer from our Munro days and I must say it was with great pride that I read the news of his appointment as a member of the Senate. His appointment does not come as a complete surprise to me, but rising to such lofty heights at such a young age is no mean feat and I am moved to applaud him.
Even more so than I am by his ascent to the Senate, I am impressed by his appointment as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of National Security. I hold this appointment as indicative of both the belief his party has in his abilities, and his own audacity; these two things should serve him well. Mr. Spencer - or should I say, Senator Spencer - you have now established yourself as a vanguard in the contribution our generation will make to shaping the destiny of our country. It comes with tremendous responsibility and we demand that you do well.
