CARIFTA UNDER-20 champion Melaine Walker of St. Jago High ran a blistering 58.34 seconds to set a new Class One 400 hurdles metres standard at yesterday's National Hurdles and Field championships at G.C. Foster College.
The 2000 World Junior Championships bronze medallist convincingly took the top spot in two events.
Posting 13.76 to lower her time from last year, she left world youth champion Camille Robinson of Christiana Comprehensive and Holmwood's Shaunette Davidson in her wake in the class one 100m final.
Walker went on to outpace Robinson and Kashain Page who finished in 60.70 and 63.17 for second and third respectively in the 400m.
Two records were broken at the meet. Walker's plus Davidson's new Class One girls high jump mark.
Davidson leapt an impressive 1.84m to finish ahead of St Jago's Michelle Williamson (1.70m) and Vere's Kemisha Nelson (1.60m).
Vere's Keisha Brown won the class two 100m final in a time of 13.94 seconds.
Selected results saw Bridgeport's Decosmo Wright winning the boys Class One 110 metres final in 14.03 seconds ahead of Carifta Under-17 100m and 400m hurdles champion Patrick Lee of Jamaica College (14.34) and Calabar's Sheldon Leith (14.44).
Calabar took the top three places in the Class Two 110m hurdles final. Brian Haye won in 14.45 followed by Akeil Facey 15.01.
JC's Romaine Gordon copped the Class Three 100m title after winning in 13.74 ahead of Stephen McLean of Kingston College who clocked 13.84 and Mekel Downer of Christiana Comprehensive (14.05).
In the field, Alpha's Peaches Roache reaped good results with a surprising 1.75m in the Class Two girls high jump.
Her jump bettered that of Immaculate's Ketra Brown who leapt 1.65m and St. Jago's Nadina Marsh (1.65) who was favoured to win.
Vere's Kemesha Nelson took the girls triple jump while Chris Morrison of KC emerged first in the boys' category. Morrison jumped 14.21 followed by Bridgeport's Omar James and Jason Wright with 14.15 and 13.84m respectively.
KC's Fabian Morgan hurled the shot put 16.35m to place first in the Class One final ahead of Bridgeport's Shawn Silvera (16.30m) and St. Jago's Gregory Douglas (15.72m).
Andre Clarke's effort of 14.54m him at the top in the Class Two shot put final ahead of his St. Jago teammate Steve Hammond (13.96) and Munro's Oliver Slowly (13.31).
