A monarchist's lament

THE EDITOR, Sir,

AM I the only one of Her Majesty's loyal Jamaican subjects left? I was saddened to hear a 17-year-old ask: "So, which Queen is coming? Is it the English Queen?" I did explain that she is the Queen of Jamaica although she's also the Queen of England and various other places in the Commonwealth.

I saw an article in one of the newspapers, that had done a small poll about whether Jamaicans wanted the Queen or not. The heading implied that Jamaicans did not, and all the opinions quoted were against keeping her as our Head of State. The odd thing was the graph/table showed that more people were for her than against! Strange!

I am etc.,

A LOYAL JAMAICAN
