Fed up with the postal service

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAVE lived in New Kingston (Kingston 5) for many years. The postal service over the years has been good, the postman came daily. It began to deteriorate in 2000 with delivery going from daily to once or twice per week.

Early last year I wrote to the Postmaster General complaining of poor service and late delivery of mail. Her response was that it was being delivered by private contractors and not the postman.

I would therefore like her to explain to me how my credit card statement which was postmarked 1-PM, January 29, 2002, Kingston CSO was delivered today February 18, 2002, one day after it was due for payment. Thanks to this poor service I will now have to pay a late fee to the bank and I'm sure that the Post Office will not give me a refund.

I have called the Cross Roads Post Office to complain and been told that there is a shortage of postmen.

I'm really not interested in this, postal rates were increased to allow the post and telegraph department to operate. If they are unable to provide the service for which they are charging the public then they should get out of the business to allow someone else who can manage it to do so.

I am etc.
