THE EDITOR, Sir:
I MUST say in our uncaring society that it is a blessing when you are helped and like anyone receiving help at a time when it seemed hopeless, it is always welcome.
I am saying thank you to the stranger(s) who with God's help saved my life and assisted my son on November 24, 2001 when the car we were travelling in collided with a land rover 'Safari' tour van in Ocho Rios.
The first Samaritan happened to be a lady who saw the accident and watched as no one wanted to move us (the passengers injured in the car). She started to cry and paid for us from her purse before anyone assisted. Not only that, she came to the hospital carrying the bag I had, she also called my wife and informed her of my ordeal.
The second set of Samaritans happen to be the wonderful doctors and nurses who acted swiftly and professionally and saved my life, as my first noticeable injury was a collapsed lung. It was found out by a very keen doctor (Dr. Ian Surgeon) that I had also a ruptured diaphragm and serious internal injury. Though I now carry a distinct and permanent mark on my stomach it reminds me of some people's love. To doctor(s) Titus, Dada, Small, Burgess, Shridar, and the wonderful nurses on the male surgical ward at the St. Ann's Bay Hospital, 'Thank you very much.
The third set of Samaritans came in the form of the managers and staff of the Sandals Dunns River where I work. From my family and me special thank you goes to my boss Chef Wolfgang Leske; F&B Manager, S. DaCosta; GM Mr. Louis Grant; RM Mr. Grey; Exec. Sous Chef J. Francis, the nurse and all the other managers and staff both from the kitchen and other departments that showed support, we thank you and God bless you in the name of Jesus.
I am, etc.,
DELROY BUDRAHM
