THE 2002 Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) championship will continue today with a six-race programme at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Kingston."The meet is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. There will be six races, two for the rookies and four for the more experienced karters," said Andrew Jackson, president of the JKA.
Another large crowd is expected to turn out as the races promise to be thrilling and exciting.
"We are trying to attract more youngsters to the sport," the JKA president said.
Following his dramatic victory in last month's feature event, 14-year-old Ardenne High schoolboy Joel Jackson is once again favoured to upset the apple-cart this afternoon.
With the departure of Brian Fong Yee, a past student of St. George College, who is now attending school in Miami, young Jackson will be seriously challenged by his older rivals Ricky and William Fong Yee.
Dayne Lawson, another Ardenne High schoolboy who raced in the rookie event at the previous race meet, is likely to make his debut in Light Class this afternoon and could spring some surprises.
At the previous meet, he put up a spirited fight to cross the finish line second in the feature event but was later disqualified because he finished the race under weight.
Also down to compete at the meet is veteran racing driver Peter Rae of Dover fame. Rae has been one of the country's most prominent motor racing drivers for more than a decade with several championship victories at the Dover Raceway in St. Ann.
