Apology

IN THE issue of the Flair Magazine published on the April 1, 2002, an article entitled 'Famous crimes committed by woman around the world' said that Aileen Fraser and son Rowan Fraser had been convicted of murder and are now appealing their convictions.

The Gleaner is now satisfied that the convictions having been overturned by the Jamaican Court of Appeal in 1994 and this decision having been confirmed by the Privy Council in 1995, the statement that Mr. Fraser and Mrs. Fraser were convicted felons awaiting appeal was wrong. The Gleaner is now satisfied that not only were they acquitted by the Court of Appeal of Jamaica but that acquittal was confirmed by the Privy Council on an appeal from the Director of Public Prosecution.

The Gleaner unreservedly apologises for any embarrassment, harm and hurt caused by the article, and we withdraw all assertions made which indicate that Aileen Fraser and Rowan Fraser should be grouped with famous criminals.
