This trend was noted by leading Caribbean publisher, Ian Randle, of Ian Randle Publishers, when he made a presentation of recently published books to Professor Rex Nettleford, Vice Chancellor of UWI on Monday, March 11.
Mr. Randle noted that of the 11 new titles produced by his company since January, five were written or edited by UWI lecturers.
These are: Children's Rights: Caribbean Realities edited by Dr. Christine Barrow, Professor of Social Development, Cave Hill campus; Gender and Management: Cases from the Caribbean edited by Linda de Four and Gwendoline Williams of the St. Augustine campus; Working Slavery, Pricing Freedom edited by Professor Verene Shepherd of the Mona campus: Questioning Creole edited by Verene Shepherd and Glen Richards also of the Mona campus and The Legal Profession in the English-Speaking Caribbean written by Karen Nunez-Teshiera of the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad (published by affiliate company, The Caribbean Law Publishing Company).
Professor Nettleford described the books as outstanding and said he was proud of the work of the UWI faculty members. He congratulated the company on the quality, range and number of books being produced.
The other titles presented were: Arte: Dutch Caribbean Art by Adi Martis and Jennifer Smit; Twentieth Century Suriname edited by Rosemarijn Hoefte and Peter Meel; Suri-name: The Economy. Prospects for Sustainable Development edited by Pitou Van Dijck; 'The West Indians of Costa Rica by Ronald Harpelle Sugar and Slate by Charlotte Williams; and Facing up to the Past by Gert Oostindie.
