THE EDITOR: Sir,
While watching the funeral service of the Queen Mother Elizabeth, I again realised the importance of "family". Was it not good to see the grandchildren walking on foot behind their grandmother's hearse? It showed love. Something that we in this blessed land should copy.
We once had that type of love in us but alas it is now almost gone. Our youngsters, no longer remember their grandmothers, grandfathers, grandaunts etc. If these youngsters would only look back at what our society was, say 20 years ago when grandmothers were cherished, when communities looked after each other's children, then they may begin to find their way back into a world of love, a world which they have willy nilly given up not realising how much they are losing by turning their backs on this very precious commodity.
But we all must strive to show by example that we are our brother's keeper and to inculcate into our young, love of country, parents, siblings and all in the wider society. If we can only bring our youngsters to a point where they can grasp the fact of how tremendous love is and that it is better to love than hate, then we will have won the battle.
Of course, there are lovely young ones out there and we must ask of them to try and reach the other youngsters who have gone astray and bring them back into the fold. It is important that the older members of this country stretch our helping hands to the good, the bad and the indifferent. If we manage to change one youngster there will be a domino effect of that youngster going on to influence the bad ones and really teaching them how to live in peace and harmony.
Let us shower our older folk and children with so much love that it will become an imperative for the new ones coming up.
I am, etc.,
