Take a bow, Grub Cooper

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Kindly allow me the space to congratulate and acknowledge one of our nation's most talented sons, Asley 'Grub' Cooper, on receiving the 2002 Special Achievement Award for music in theatre from the Actor Boy Committee.

'Grubsy' and I met in the early '60s in Trench Town and from there our friendship blossomed. It was with the Fabulous Five Band and at Federal Records that he provided musical accompaniment for my group, The Soulettes. Since then, he has been the vocal arranger on all my productions. He was with the family when the Melody Makers first performed at their school concert and when they did their first recording of Children Playing in the Streets in 1979.

At our recent birthday party for Brother Bob, he arranged the song performed by our grandchildren. Oh, what a friend! Keep up the good work, singer man, drummer man and dancer too. We love you.

I am, etc.,

Mrs. Rita Marley
