THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WENT to the Wexford Court Hotel on Gloucester Avenue in Montego Bay recently to make a reservation on behalf of a US business associate who will be visiting our beautiful island in May. I recommended this particular hotel to my associate because of its excellent location and its reasonable rates and so he requested that I go ahead and book the reservation for him.
Upon my arrival at the front desk of the hotel I explained to the young lady whom I saw working there that I was here to make a reservation for someone. Her response to me was "The reservationsist is out to lunch and there is no one else to take a reservation". Astounded, I asked her if she could just take down the information. She responded that no, she could not. That was the end of the conversation.
Upon returning to my car, I decided that I would make the reservation elsewhere as I was totally put off by what had just transpired. I write this letter only to point out our general lack of customer service in Jamaica - especially in an industry that I would think needs all the business it can get.
I am etc.,
