THE EDITOR, Sir:
I CAN only describe the recent display by students of the University of the West Indies, Mona, as unfortunate. I am continuously confused and befuddled by the exhibition of students of this higher learning facility. Their ignorance of the fact that actions belie words continue to be evident.
The young lady who bellowed into the microphone furthered the confusion of those watching and did nothing to explain the situation and the difficulty they had experienced. Her shouting took everything away from the meaning of her words. The outburst in the hall after the ill-timed statement of the lecturer was also embarrassing.
Nothing has been accomplished by their display. If anything, they have managed to alienate themselves because they are seen as screaming, ignorant spoiled students who cannot represent or explain themselves in a controlled orderly manner, even in a state of dissatisfaction.
Their actions will only guarantee that when they feel they are wronged again it will be harder for them to gain support or sympathy from anyone, whether inside or outside the system. We will look at them and remember this and the fiasco car raffle and think, the hooligan brats are at it again.
These are the future leaders of Jamaica?
I am etc.,
