3 charged with woman's killing

THREE MEN, including a London-based businessman, were yesterday arrested and charged jointly with the brutal killing of his former girlfriend, who was shot dead along Long Lane, St. Andrew, on April 4.

Awaiting trial on the charge of conspiracy to murder is Dwight Johnson, 35, alias "Ikey" of a Kingston 8 address and also of London. He is the former boyfriend of Sheena Davis, the 22-year-old woman who arrived in the island three weeks ago to bury her father, who was also killed by gunmen. The police said Mr. Johnson is a Jamaican who is the holder of a British passport.

Charged with murder and shooting with intent are Ricardo Davis, a 19-year-old plumber and Dean Smith, a 20-year-old delivery man, both of Waterford addresses in St. Catherine.

"Smith was pointed out during an identification parade on Tuesday," said the Area 5 Crime Officer, Superintendent Calvin Benjamin. "They are supposed to face another ID parade next week," the officer said.

Preliminary investigations into the murder of Ms. Davis point to what could be a contract killing. Commenting on the spate of contract killings in Jamaica, Assistant Commissioner Osbourne Dyer said: "I don't see much of it, but yes, there are killings that do look very organised."

Ms. Davis was killed four days after arriving in the island. Police records revealed that her former boyfriend arrived a day before she came. Allegations are that she had ended the relationship 10 weeks before coming to Jamaica.

According to reports, Ms. Davis and other family members were in the process of preparing meals for her father's 'nine night' when she went to a nearby shop to purchase an item.

While walking along Long Lane, a grey Nissan Sunny motor car with two men aboard drove and called her by name. They then shot her several times. She died on the spot.

The car was recovered about a week later, abandoned in the vicinity of Diamond and Spanish Town Roads, Kingston.
