THE EDITOR, Sir:
AS A serving member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force I was quite alarmed and fearful as a direct result of the incident that unfolded in the Spaldings community two weeks ago. Frightened because of the actions of the misguided persons and fearful of where it might lead.
I am glad to read yesterday's paper an article in your paper from Jamaicans for Justice. For the first time I have read something from them which I consider worth reading.
What would be the cry today if the police had lost custody of the men during the riots, since the men are presumed to be innocent?
Those policemen would be suspended and charged criminally for negligence.
Let us walk away from this mob killing and remember the three principles of law.
1: The presumption of innocence.
2: The demand for evidence.
3: The opportunity to defend oneself against accusation.
