Jamaica a hardsell

THE EDITOR, Sir:

RECENTLY A co-worker visited Jamaica on a three-island cruise. She was in Jamaica for less than eight hours. Within that time she had been offered marijuana several times and she was harassed by several homeless (mad men).

Upon returning to work she proceeded to tell everyone of the terrible experience she had in Jamaica. I noticed the effect on the other people at work. After her report, most of them, if they had an opportunity to visit Jamaica would not go. She also warned one guy who has already booked his honeymoon in Jamaica. I just hope that he will have a great time there, so that Jamaica's name can get some redemption.

I have tried to say very positive things about my country Jamaica, but they think that I cannot be objective because I am a Jamaican.

My co-worker's experience really saddened me, because I know that Jamaica depends on tourism, and tourism depends on tourists going back and telling their friends about their experiences.

I hope an attempt will be made to get the drug dealers and mad men off the streets, because they are offensive to visitors.

I am etc.,
