Cricket academy needed

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM writing to congratulate the Jamaican team for winning the Busta Cup. It was a brilliant performance from a team who lost first innings points in the opening game of the season and came back to win six consecutive games. It was a team effort but there are certain members who needs special mention. They are Gareth Breeze and Darren Powell.

I saw Powell in a game against the West Indies B at Jarrett Park, and I was impressed with his pace and effort. I thought with some hard work he could go places. I was disappointed when he was left out of the team for the opening match. I am glad the selectors realised they made an error and the rest is history.

Jamaica has the best young cricketers in the region. We need a cricket academy to concentrate on developing these talented players to their full potential. We have players like Dujon, Holding, Walsh and Foster whose expertise could be utilised at different times, plus other former players. The private sector and the Government needs to come together to make this possible. The G.C. Foster College could be a good location for the academy.

I am, etc.,
