Cocoa crisis in Hanover

THE EDITOR, Sir:

COCOA FARMERS are frustrated with the existing condition of the industry in the parish of Hanover, with the closure of the fermentary which is being utilised at present for the processing of turmeric instead of cocoa.

Reaping of cocoa has ceased on the properties of the Cocoa Industry Board.

Cocoa was collected twice during the previous year and no collection since the start of the present year. Farmers are instructed to process their crop by drying.

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Cocoa Growers Co-operative Federation Ltd., should intervene as to the cause, as several growers have ceased reaping and are losing the interest in the industry.

I am, etc.,

STANFORD LEWIS

Hanover
