THE EDITOR, Sir:
ON SUNDAY afternoon, April 28, a capacity audience attended the St. Andrew Scots Kirk on Duke Street to share in the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC).
This was not a performance simply for entertainment. It was an act of praise and worship and one could not help feeling that it "was right to give God thanks and praise" through music, singing and the dance.
The NDTC came into being at the same time that Jamaica came into Independence and for those of us who have journeyed with them these 40 years, it has been a rich experience. The Rev. Ralph Hoyte, Minister of ST. Andrew Scots Kirk, spoke eloquently of the contribution of the NDTC.
As an indication of the maturity of the company which has delighted audiences around the world and of which all Jamaica can be extremely proud, it was noticeable that the founder and artistic director, Professor the Hon. Rex Nettleford, sat in the audience while the programme flowed smoothly, without a hitch to receive a standing ovation at the end.
Jamaica can show its appreciation of the NDTC by giving this superb company all the support that they so richly deserve.
I am, etc.,
