Raging waters thwart rescue

By Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

MORE THAN 30 persons were marooned at the Milk River Spa, Clarendon, during yesterday's flood rains.

Following their appeals for help, veteran motor-racing driver Peter 'Bull' Thompson responded to their plight by sending one of his trucks from May Pen Ice Co., to the rescue, but the rushing waters were too much for it and it stalled.

Mr. Thompson then drove his pick-up truck to rescue the marooned people, but midway on the Milk River main road, it was covered by five feet of water. Mr. Thompson was left stranded for about 45 minutes before another truck came and pulled it out.

A Jamaica Defence Force helicopter which went to assist the persons marooned at the Milk River Spa, had to retreat because there was nowhere for it to land without being flooded or submerged, according to a Constabulary Communication Network report.
