Stop the grandstanding!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THERE IS no doubt that Air Jamaica aggressive marketing thrust and the work they are doing is paying off for the carrier. What, however, is just plain selfish grandstanding is the claim that it was done by Air Jamaica and Air Jamaica Vacations alone.

There are numerous hotels with their representatives, other tour operators, and the Jamaica Tourist Board that contribute to the business carried by Air Jamaica.

Mr. Zacca has insulted his partners which in fact does include the Jamaica Tourist Board which spends directly thousands of US dollars in shared direct expenses with the airline.

Where has all the decency gone in the travel industry, when as a group, we shared information, met together to discuss our plans, worked as a team and did the things that are good for our country. We must stop being dishonest with each other and stop putting down each other as we are confusing the nation. There is no need for that.

I am calling on Mr Zacca and everyone in the industry to stop the grandstanding. You are all brilliant people in your own rights, and in the field you work. Stop it now and go to the boardroom as Jamaica's tourism team and work together. The bottomline is the people of Jamaica and what we are doing for them.

I am etc.,
