Sunnyside victims seek relatives assistance

LINSTEAD:

SEVERAL FAMILIES in the Sunnyside communities of north west St. Catherine were flooded out of their homes yesterday and had to seek shelter with friends and relatives.

Delroy Barnes, with a family of four children, told The Gleaner that a tributary of the Rio Cobre overflowed its bank and pushed water into the houses while leaving behind a trail of mud.

The Linstead police reported that several families in that community had to be evacuated as their homes were threatened by rising waters.

Several of the flood victims in the Central Village community have appealed for children's clothing, blankets and medical supplies.

The homes of several residents from the community of Nightingale Grove near Old Harbour, were also flooded and the occupants had to seek shelter in a nearby basic school.
